A lounge chair with room to settle in
Build one outdoor lounge chair with a deep seat, a 25-degree reclined backrest and wide 4×4 arms. Make a pair by doubling the cut list.
Dimensions
The imperial plan gives overall dimensions of 30⅛ in wide × 34 in deep × 37¾ in tall. The seat is 23⅛ in wide with 22 in of usable depth, and the arm height is 25 in. The seat slopes from 16 in at the front to 14⅞ in at the back.
Materials and tools
Use exterior-grade wood in standard 4×4, 2×6, 2×4 and 2×2 sizes. Hidden joints use pocket screws. You will need a saw, drill-driver, pocket-hole jig, clamps and a table saw or circular saw with a straightedge for the upper backrest rail rip cut.
Build time and experience
An intermediate project with an estimated 3–4 hours for cutting and assembly of one chair, plus finishing time. The seat and back boards share the same 25-degree bevel cut.
