Covered Hay Feeder Plans

Bale sizes and loading access

Buy the plans on Etsy

Digital plans, not a finished product

Plan a roofed feeding area around the bales you use, how you load them and the animals that will use it

Measure the bale and loading route

Record bale width, length and height, and include the space needed by your loading equipment

Check the approach, gate opening and working space around the feeder before selecting its dimensions

Choose a suitable site

Consider drainage, level ground and access for cleaning and refilling

The structure, anchoring and roof need to suit the site and exposure

Check suitability for your animals

Feeding openings, projecting fasteners and possible trapping points need to be assessed for the intended animals

Do not assume one feeder layout is suitable for every species or size of animal

Before ordering

  • Compare the bale dimensions with the usable feeding space
  • Check loading access and the gate arrangement
  • Confirm the plan dimensions and units
  • Review the intended animal use and site requirements
